right, some of us might have tried, even for once, to open up our precious toys just for curiosity or had a go at trying to be like Andy (xaccers) - the AEG Doctor. In your own opinion and based on your experience... which AEG is easy to upgrade and on the other hand... which one's so troublesome to open-up and maintain? Here's mine: EASIEST: 1. G36 and C version(haven't tried the K but im sure they're quite the same) - easy to access the inner barrel and hop chamber - version 3 gearbox, quick spring change(STAR G36) - easy to access the gearbox - lots of after market upgrades and accessories 2. A&K M249 para - quick takedown... remove pins here and there... instant access to your gearbox. - quick spring change feature... no more flying bits and bobs when opening up the gear box. - quick barrel change design... can seperate the entire barrel and hop assembly with just one push on the release button. HARDEST MP5 (old versions) - have to open up the entrie body just to get into the hop chamber. troublesome just to change hop bucking and inner barrel. Same problem when accessing the gearbox and it is a Version 2 GB so high risk for flying bits if not careful. TM FAMAS - same problem as above with a different Gear box design. - when trying to open this baby up be sure you've packed loads of PATIENCE with you coz this needs a lot of screws to be taken out. I know there are much easier and much harder AEGs to upgrade out there but the one's ive mentioned are the one's ive had opened up. Now lets here it from you guys then....

Mine: Easiest: G36. I can disassemble it down to its gearbox(disassembly) in less than ten minutes. Upgrades are easy too. Hopup system is easy peasy too. Barrel replacement/swap is easy peasy too. Highly recommended AEG for starters.
Hardest: M14. So many parts to disassemble and it's like a puzzle which appropriate for High I.Q. person to solve. LOL! Sir Ramrod can attest for its eccentrities.

I would like to change my answer. Easiest for me is my JG Steyr Aug. I was able to strip and disassemble it down to disassembly of V3 gearbox less than 8minutes. Check out mechbox.com and see what I mean. hehehe.. Barrel change/upgrade is easy peasy too. Easier than changing barrel and hopup system of my G36.

Among the AEGs in the market, the easiest to disassemble is the M4/M16 and its variants.

Easiest AEG is by far the P90. Upper receiver and barrel come away with the push of a button. Gearbox is out after 3 screws. Gearbox splits into 3 sections so the main spring doesn't interfere with reassembly of the gear section. I much prefer working on my VSR though. No pesky gears or electrics to worry about, only the constant striving for accuracy.
